CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Miles Morales
CANON: Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
HISTORY: Miles Morales was an ordinary kid until a fateful night he spent with his uncle Aaron. Aaron knew that Miles was into graffiti art, and also that his dad (Aaron's brother) didn't approve of it, so he showed Aaron this hidden, definitely illegal spot in the tunnels under Brooklyn where he could practice. It was there that Miles got bit by a weird looking spider. Anyone who is familiar with the Spider-Man mythos can probably predict what happened next. Miles started getting weird powers that he couldn't control very well. Frantic to figure out was going on, he found his way back down into the subway tunnels to find the spider.
He determined that it was NOT a normal spider, but before he could figure out anything else, he met Spider-Man, world famous superhero and defender of New York. Spider-Man was locked in a deadly battle against several of his rivals and was trying to stop the Kingpin, a mobster who had half of New York in his pocket, from turning on a particle accelerator that Spidey was sure would have horrifying repercussions, including the destruction of Brooklyn, if turned on for too long. It did turn on, but only for a few seconds, during which Spider-Man was stuck into the beam.
Things got ugly from there. The Particle Accelerator got damaged and shut down, but Spider-Man was injured. When found by Miles, he recognized the boy as a kindred spirit. He pressed a USB drive that would manually override the accelerator into his hand and told him he had to use it to destroy it. Miles took it and hid just long enough to see the Kingpin kill Spider-Man. Miles fled, with one of the mobster's agents, an ominous figure called Prowler, hot on his tail. He was barely able to escape with his life. The USB drive Spider-Man had given him was broken, though. The next day it was all over the news that Spider-Man was dead, which is why it was so weird that when Miles visited Peter Parker's grave, he was approached by Peter Parker.
After some awkward misunderstandings, Peter B Parker revealed that he was from another dimension where he had not died but was kind of a washed up loser, and had been dragged into THIS dimension by the particle accelerator destabilizing reality. After some arguing, Peter VERY RELUCTANTLY agreed to let Miles help him in exchange for showing him the ropes on how to be Spider-Man. Together they infiltrated a research facility owned by the Kingpin and...semi-successfully stole a computer with all the information they would need to make a new goober (what Peter insisted on calling the device Miles had gotten from this universe's original Spider-Man.). They were noticed and chased by a horde of angry scientists with laser guns, as well as the infamous Doctor Octopus (a woman, in this universe). They only escaped after the appearance of yet a THIRD Spider-...man? Gwen Stacy was a refugee from YET ANOTHER parallel dimension where SHE had been bitten by the spider rather than Peter, and had been acting as Spider-Woman up until the particle accelerator had yanked her into this dimension as well.
For lack of a better idea they decided at this point to contact Aunt May, Spider-Man's legal guardian as a child, to see if she had any ideas on where they could go to make a new goober. May revealed that she was fully aware of more or less everything going on, that she had been this universe's Spider-Man's mission control, that he had had a secret lair in her back yard, and that there were three more Spider-people who had already come here. Peni Parker, a japanese girl with a giant robot sidekick piloted by a psychic spider, Spider-Noir, a nazi-punching detective from the 1930s who got bit by a radioactive spider, and Spider-Ham, a spider that got bitten by a radioactive pig and was basically a Looney Tunes character.
They determined that the AU visitors' bodies were deteriorating while not in their home dimension, and that they couldn't stay here. They needed to use the accelerator to get home, and someone needed to stay behind to shut it down after they left. Miles volunteered, as he was a native to this dimension and safe from the deterioration that the others were suffering from, but the rest of them decided he was too inexperienced and sent him home. Unsure what else to do, Miles went to his Uncle Aaron for advice, only to discover that Aaron was, in fact, the Prowler and was working for the Kingpin.
Miles went back to May's house to tell them but was followed, leading to a big fight between the Kingpin and his goons and the Spider-Army. Prowler was ALMOST able to kill Miles before he realized that he was about to kill his own nephew and hesitated. The Kingpin took this as a betrayal and shot him before retreating. Peter decided Miles was in no good place to help save the world and tied Miles up with webbing in his own room. He planned to sacrifice himself by staying behind to destroy the accelerator and then dying horribly from his body deteriorating into goo from being in the wrong dimension.
While he was still stuck in his room, trying to figure out how to get out of Peter's webbing, Miles was visited by his father. He never actually saw him (as Miles couldn't open the door while tied up), but told him about his uncle's death, and that despite their tension (That was how his father interpreted Miles odd behavior over the last few days) he was proud of his son and believed that he could accomplish great things. So inspired, Miles finally gets the hang of his powers and managed to break out of the webbing. He went back to May's house again and was able to get one of this universe's Peter's old spider suits, which he spray painted black, then go and help the rest of the Spider-People in their ongoing battle against the Kingpin.
In a climactic battle, Miles was able to get everyone back to their own dimensions AND beat up the Kingpin. He left him tied up in webs for the police to find, destroyed the accelerator, and fled the scene, feeling ready to be the new Spider-Man of this universe.
STRENGTHS: Good Heart - Miles is a superhero. He might be stumbling as he learns the ropes, but deep down he just wants to do right by the people around him. He's not great at the BIG picture but when it comes to people he knows he hates the idea of them getting hurt when he could have done something about it. He's motivated by the problems of people he knows first, but over all he does care about helping everyone.
Honorable - He gets it from his dad, who is a cop (and a good one). Miles hates lying and takes promises seriously. If he says he'll do something, then he's going to damn well do it. He still WILL lie or keep secrets if he feels like he needs to (kind of essential when you're a superhero with a secret identity.), but he won't like it.
Charisma - Miles is pretty likable. He never has trouble making friends wherever he goes. Whether he does it by cracking jokes, by actually pulling off being legitimately cool, or just by being endearingly earnest and dorky, he generally can get the people around him on his side.
FLAWS: Inexperienced - Miles is very young and equally new to extraordinary things like saving the world and managing special powers as he is to ordinary things like doing his own laundry or talking to girls. He's thirteen, after all.
Panic prone - Miles gets overwhelmed sometimes. When he feels like he's under too much pressure, or he doesn't know what to do, he shoves people away from him and shuts the world out. If people force their way in he gets defensive and will either run away or act erratically and unpredictably.
Bad Liar - Miles cannot come up with a believable lie to save his LIFE. He can SORT of get by as long as he has a few minutes to think about it and plan something out, but if he's on the spot he comes up with absolute nonsense in the best case and it goes downhill from there. ("I know you sneaked out last night, Morales!" "Who's Morales?")
CANON ABILITIES: Superhuman body - Faster, stronger, tougher than a normal human by a significant margin. Miles can shatter stone with a punch, jump dozens of feet through the air, and shrug off blows that would squish a normal person to pulp.
Spider Sense - Miles' senses and reflexes are a cut above normal. It's almost impossible to take him by surprise, and also he can tell when he first meets someone if they're also a Spider-Person.
Wall Crawling - Miles' hands and feet can become super sticky at will, even through gloves or shoes, allowing him to traverse walls and ceilings just as easily as he can flat ground
Invisibility - Miles can turn invisible. For some reason his clothes turn invisible too. Sometimes he does it by mistake if he gets scared.
Venom Blast - Miles can project an electric shock through his hands or through webbing, should he get some.
Web slinging - Miles does NOT have built in web glands, but he does have a pair of wrist based devices that, when triggered sprays a liquid that turns into super long, lightweight, sturdy ropes on contact with air that can stick to whatever they hit, allowing him to pull himself towards things or to pull things towards him or any number of other creative applications.
AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: Miles Morales
AGE: 13
GRADE: 7
AU BACKSTORY: Miles Morales was an ordinary kid until, while trying to find a place to practice his graffiti art, he got bit by a blighted spider. Normally, the blight is a fatal poison, but Miles had a Flame within him, fast asleep. The bite was the trigger that woke up the power within him and saved his life from a painful death. Miles slept for sixteen hours, and when he woke back up he found that he was stronger, faster, tougher, and taller than before. Also, he found that he was turning invisible by mistake as times, zapping things with electric shocks, and that his hands and feet were occasionally sticking to things like they were covered in super glue. He went for a baffled and panicked walk (more of a run, really) along the outside wall of his school, got hit by a taxi and recovered without injury by jumping ten feet into the air, and accidentally got his hand stuck to a classmate's head before someone from Daybreak got wind of what was going on and took care of the situation.
A few days later, Jefferson Morales got a letter in the mail explaining that his son had passed some tests and had his name drawn for a spot at the prestigious Daybreak Academy, a school in Europe for gifted students. The whole family was thrilled for Miles. There was a lot of discussion about going to school so far from home but it was pointed out that Miles' uncle Aaron lived in France, and that while he and Jefferson hadn't always gotten along very well, it would mean that there was family within driving distance of Daybreak should Miles need help or just a familiar face. Miles himself, knowing the real deal, was still nervous about it all but knew that this was probably his best chance to get answers about what was happening to him, so he pushed for it.
Another few days later, Miles Morales and his parents arrived at the school to be dropped off
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: Miles lives in the Marvel universe. It's a universe that is SORT of like ours on a superficial level, but when you look a little closer you see that it's full of superheroes and villains. Spider-Man was on the news on a regular basis. The Avengers are probably out there in his world somewhere, and he knows about them because they're not hidden. The point is canon Miles lives in a world full of the fantastic. He has some kind of experience with it, and thus has some kind of idea on what it should be like just based on experience.
Daybreak Miles, on the other hand, lives in a world that's just as fantastic, but where the fantasies hide themselves behind a masquerade of secrecy. As such, until he was thrown into it himself he had NO IDEA that that kind of thing was real. His AU self will go to Daybreak with less preconceived notions of what this kind of stuff is supposed to be like, but he'll also be more surprised that it exists in the first place.
RACE: Human (candle)
SECRET SOCIETY: None.
POWERS: Superhuman body - Faster, stronger, tougher than a normal human by a significant margin. Miles can shatter stone with a punch, jump dozens of feet through the air, and shrug off blows that would squish a normal person to pulp.
Spider Sense - Miles' senses and reflexes are a cut above normal, making him instinctively almost impossible to sneak up or sucker punch. But on top of that, he has very very weak seer powers. They've never actually let him see the future (though who knows. That might change later!), but mainly what they do is let him identify other people with seer powers.
Wall Crawling - Miles' hands and feet can become super sticky at will, even through gloves or shoes, allowing him to traverse walls and ceilings just as easily as he can flat ground
Invisiblity - Miles can turn invisible. For some reason his clothes turn invisible too. Sometimes by mistake if he gets scared.
Venom Blast - Miles can project an electric shock through his hands or through webbing, should he get some.
So ALMOST identical to canon. He's really bad at using any of these powers right now, though. He'll get better at controlling them over the course of the game, but as of apping he won't really be able to use ANY of these powers reliably.
